For the first time ever, Elko is having a PopCon! Sponsored by the Elko Convention and Visitors Authority, You've probably heard of Comic-con. PopCon is a similar concept, but it explores and celebrates all of pop culture from movies and music to cartoons, anime, etc. Attend in "normal" clothes or in your best Cosplay outfit! Join the cosplay costume contest for a chance to win several prizes including a $1500 grand prize! There is even a youth division!
The Elko Convention and Visitors Authority has lined up several celebrity guests from the Pop Culture scene, including Dwayne Cameron (commonly known from Power Rangers) Evil Ted, and Leonora Scelfo from Scream.
Panel Discussions include "Musings of the Jedi: A Star Wars Panel," or "A Beginner's Crash Cours to Cosplay." and several others. There will also be workshops including facepainting, foam smithing, and zombie wear. You can also play some games including Disney Trivia and Pokemon!
There are tons of things to do- definitely enough for a full day!
There will also be plenty of food available from local food trucks, including Old Timey Ice Cream! We will have Strawberry Shortcake Sundaes as well as a Strawberry Shortcake themed menu. Come see Strawberry Shortcake and Lemon Meringue at Old Timey Ice Cream for your dose of pop culture nostalgia and sweet tooth fix!
